Russell Gulley and Friends
After almost twenty years absence from the recording business, Russell Gulley has revitalized his career with the release of "Back to the Swamp". The CD is a funky acoustic mix of American roots, a blend of blues, roots rock and roll, gospel and country. These are the influences that Russell grew up on and later matured during tenure as a staff writer and recording artist at the world famous, Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama.
Today Russell performs at festivals, clubs, and arts venues with a group of musicians that often includes
Johnny Neel, formerly of the Allman Brothers Band, Chris Anderson of the Outlaws, harpist Blind Willie Jones, and Mark Robinson, a guitarist that has worked in the house band at Buddy Guy's club in Chicago performing with many blues legends.
Russell recently signed a promotion agreement with the legendary music promoter Dick Wooley, former vice president of Capricorn Records. While at Capricorn, Wooley was instrumental in establishing the careers of The Allman Brothers Band, Wet Willie, Marshall Tucker, and many of Southern Music's greatest artists. This relationship is expected to gain more exposure for Russell's recordings both in this country and abroad, as well as, to assist in re-introducing Russell to the major players in today's music business.
Russell is currently writing and recording tracks for a new CD for release later this year. He's touring in 2007 as part of the Alabama State Council on the Arts' Rural Schools Touring Program, bringing tradition and roots music to students all across the state, and will be showcasing at regional folk life and blues festivals to support his recordings.
